Accessibility Statement
Effective date: January 1, 2026 · Last updated: 2026-05-07 · Conformance target: WCAG 2.2 Level AA
1. Our commitment
Pasadena Clinical Group is committed to ensuring that the website at couplestherapy-lacounty.com is accessible to people with disabilities. We believe access to mental healthcare information shouldn't depend on what technology a person uses to read the web.
This statement explains the standards we work to, the steps we have taken, the limits we are aware of, and the way you can let us know about an accessibility barrier you encounter.
2. Conformance target
Our conformance target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative. WCAG 2.2 builds on 2.1 and adds criteria around dragging movements, target size, focus appearance, and consistent help — all of which we have factored into the build.
Where this statement uses the term "accessible," we mean substantially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Some content (older PDFs, third-party embeds) may not yet meet the target; we describe known limitations in Section 5.
3. Legal context
We aim to comply with applicable accessibility laws, including:
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III — covering "places of public accommodation." U.S. Department of Justice guidance (March 2022) and longstanding case law treat business websites as covered. We design and operate this site as a covered place of public accommodation.
- California Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civil Code §51 et seq.) — California courts have repeatedly held that a violation of the ADA is also a violation of the Unruh Act. Our compliance posture under the ADA also serves Unruh.
- California Disabled Persons Act (Cal. Civil Code §54 et seq.) — additional disability rights protections that extend to website accessibility.
- Section 508 — applies to federal-government websites; we follow it as a reference benchmark even where it is not directly applicable to a private practice.
4. What we have built in
The following accessibility features are part of the site design and apply to every page on couplestherapy-lacounty.com:
- Skip-link at the top of every page so keyboard users can jump past the navigation directly to main content.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element, with contrast that meets WCAG 2.2 focus-appearance criteria.
- Keyboard navigation throughout — primary nav, mega-menu, mobile drawer, FAQ accordions, cookie banner and modal, language toggle. No interactions require a mouse.
- Semantic HTML — headings in proper hierarchy, landmark roles (header, nav, main, aside, footer), buttons that are buttons (not divs), links that are links, lists that are lists.
- ARIA applied where semantic HTML alone isn't enough —
aria-labelon icon-only controls,aria-expandedon the mobile drawer and Care mega-menu trigger,aria-currenton the current-page nav item, role="dialog"with focus management on the cookie modal,aria-liveon the FAQ search-within count. - Color contrast — body text meets 4.5:1 contrast on background; large text meets 3:1; non-text UI elements meet 3:1. We use a warm-neutral palette designed to meet contrast at all combinations rather than rely on any single accessibility band-aid.
- Reduced-motion respect — the site honors
prefers-reduced-motion; reveal-on-scroll and other motion is suppressed for users who request it. - Resizable text — the site uses fluid
clamp()typography. Zooming to 200% does not break layout. Setting larger system font sizes works with our type scale. - Form labels and error messages — every form field has a programmatic label; error states are conveyed visually and via accessible text, not by color alone.
- Image alt text — descriptive alt text on every image describing what's depicted, not keyword-stuffed. Decorative imagery uses empty alt or
aria-hiddenas appropriate. - Mobile-first responsive design — content reflows cleanly to 320px viewports without requiring horizontal scrolling.
- Language declaration — every page has a
langattribute; the Spanish mirror is declaredlang="es"with hreflang cross-references. - Page titles — each page has a unique, descriptive
<title>.
5. Known limitations
We are honest about what is not yet at full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance:
- Formal third-party accessibility audit not yet performed. The site as currently built reflects design intent and internal review against WCAG 2.2 AA. A documented third-party audit will be commissioned and the report referenced from this Statement once complete.
- Third-party embeds. The Google Maps embed on the Contact page and the Cloudflare Turnstile widget on the Contact and Career forms are third-party components. We have selected them with accessibility in mind, but their internal conformance is partly outside our control.
- PDFs and downloadable documents. Where any are added, we will ensure they are tagged for screen-reader access. As of the "Last updated" date, the site does not host downloadable PDFs.
- Future image gallery. The current image set is licensed stock; future commissioned photography will receive the same alt-text treatment described in Section 4.
6. How we maintain accessibility
- Every new page is reviewed against the items in Section 4 before publication.
- Lighthouse Accessibility scoring (≥95) is part of our build acceptance criteria; pages failing this threshold are remediated before merge.
- Reported accessibility barriers (Section 8) are triaged within 5 business days and resolved or addressed with a workaround as fast as the issue allows.
- The site is reviewed periodically against new WCAG criteria as the standard evolves.
7. In-office accessibility
Our office at 301 N. Lake Ave, STE 600, Pasadena, CA 91101 is wheelchair-accessible via the building's elevator and ground-floor entrance. ADA-accessible parking is available in the building's parking structure. If you need any specific accommodation for an in-person session — sign-language interpreter, accessible-route confirmation, visual or auditory accommodation — let us know in advance and we will arrange it. Telehealth is available 7 days a week as an alternative.
8. Reporting an accessibility barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this Site — something that doesn't work with your screen reader, keyboard, voice-control software, or other assistive technology — please tell us. We will work with you to provide the information by another means while we fix the underlying issue.
